Workshop agenda. All times are UK time, GMT.
Time (GMT)SessionWhat you will practise
09:30–10:00Know what you can agreeMap the commercial and delivery elements of a fictional SaaS deal. Identify your priorities, authority limits and the owners whose decisions you need before making commitments.
Your output: A negotiation preparation map with clear authority boundaries.
10:00–10:45Explore the request behind the numberPractise asking what drives the buyer’s request: budget timing, rollout scope, perceived risk or a competing offer. Use a factual comparison of users, services and responsibilities.
Your output: Buyer-priority questions and a like-for-like scope comparison.
10:45–11:30First negotiation: price and onboardingEach participant handles a short negotiation from the fictional brief while peers take buyer and observer roles. Explore the request, explain a boundary and make an authorised conditional proposal. Feedback addresses clarity, listening and commitments.
Your output: Observed initial practice and specific negotiation feedback.
11:30–12:30Lunch breakOptional 10-minute 1-to-1 video check-in with Paul to review feedback and focus your afternoon practice.
12:30–13:15Make the trade-off explicitExamine options involving phased users, service scope and rollout timing within the supplied brief. Practise stating conditions and checking consequences. Route product, legal and delivery questions to their owners instead of using vague reassurance to close a gap.
Your output: A conditional proposal with dependencies and approval needs stated.
13:15–14:00Repeat with a changing buyer priorityEach participant repeats a difficult negotiation segment after feedback. Respond when the buyer changes a priority or requests an added commitment. Use the same criteria to assess whether the proposal remains clear, feasible and within authority.
Your output: An observed repeat attempt and refined proposal language.
14:00–14:30Write down what the conversation meansDraft a concise follow-up that distinguishes the proposed agreement, conditions, unresolved points and approvals still required. Check that an internal delivery colleague could understand the commitment.
Your output: An agreement recap and 2 workplace practice actions.

Preparation and follow-up

  1. Before the workshop

Complete a short questionnaire and prepare the fictional deal brief. Note your priorities, possible options, authority limits and approval needs.

  2. After the workshop

Revise your negotiation preparation map and write a fictional deal recap. Set 2 actions for your next negotiation.

Your individual report assesses priorities, conditions and commitment clarity in the written work, alongside questioning, listening and proposal handling observed during role play. Your 30/60/90-day action plan sets 2 actions and review criteria.

Bring: 1 anonymised negotiation challenge without confidential pricing, contracts or customer details. The supplied deal brief provides the numbers and boundaries for practice.

Workshop questions

Do I need permission to negotiate prices at work?

Practise using the fictional brief’s boundaries. The workshop suits people preparing options for commercial decision makers as well as those negotiating directly.

Does the workshop cover contract law?

The focus is preparation, conversations and clear records of proposed commitments. Legal terms and contractual approvals remain with your organisation’s responsible specialists.

Will I have to disclose my company’s pricing?

No. The fictional deal supplies the numbers, services and boundaries. Personal challenges should be anonymised and free of confidential commercial information.
